History: The Site has a total square footage of Over 2.2M sq.ft., on 135 Acres. 1.8M sq.ft. of manufacturing space under roof with 85,000 sq.ft. of Offices. Built in 1941 by Buick Aviation for WWII. Architect was Albert Kahn, who was famous for his design of Industrial Buildings. He built a number of buildings for Detroit Car Manufacturer’s. The Front of the buildings were his “Signature.” The Melrose Park Plant was the Second largest manufacturing plant in Illinois. The First was the Dodge Plant in Bedford Park, IL. That plant also built Aircraft Engines, and then after WWII, Tucker Automobile took over the facility. Winternitz Auctioneers conducted (2) Auctions of the Tucker Plant back in 1949 & 1950. That location is now Ford City Mall, and the Tootsie Roll Company. During WWII, the current Navistar plant Built Pratt-Whitney R-1830 Aircraft Engines, when completed they were shipped to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be installed on the B-24 Liberator Bombers. International Harvester purchased the plant in 1946. The plant used to employ about 5,000 people during full production.
